LETTER: Individuals can help resolve housing shortage

Thank you, to the writer of such a wonderful letter a couple weeks ago (“Pay it Forward,” May 13, PDN) addressing the rental housing crisis in our area, which is a dire concern and needs to be shared by us all.

The writer’s plea is to property owners who rent housing and may be playing a part in this crisis.

The writer said, “Charge something affordable instead of utilizing the housing shortage to gain more.”

And please, “Allow your no-pet rental to house a beloved pet.”

Yes.

And here are a few more suggestions that could turn into awesome possibilities:

If you have a house with empty rooms, consider renting them out for $400 to $500 per month.

Or allow someone to use them temporarily in exchange for caregiving, housekeeping or yard help.

Donate (a bit more than you think you can afford) to Serenity House or OlyCAP or any one of our organizations that help with housing expenses.

If you don’t have an adult child or relative who needs it, find out how you can give away that old RV in your yard that no one has used for years.

The writer ended the thoughtful letter with a scripture verse from Luke 6:38, “For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

And I will add another: “Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.”
