LETTER: Here’s an apology to the world for our electing Donald Trump

As an American citizen, I would like to apologize to the people of the world for what has happened in America.

From their perspective, the biggest, baddest dog on the block has gone rabid and is foaming at the mouth. The most powerful country in the world has elected an egomaniac to be “dictator-in-chief” and given complete control of the government to a pack of war-mongering profiteers. But don’t blame me; I voted for candidates who are actually qualified.

There is a mild but widespread form of mental illness responsible, and it is called conservatism. This ailment is characterized by an inability to accept a changing world, a delusional memory of how things “used to be” and a strong emotional attachment to their beliefs.

Bring conservatives proof that something they believe is wrong, and they will feel attacked, get angry, and look for any source, even if it is fake news, that will allow them to continue believing what they so desperately want to believe.

If the definition of insanity is “repeating the same behavior over and over and expecting a different result,” then what can we say about conservatives, who keep voting for the GOP when every time they are in power, everything gets worse?

Cutting taxes for the wealthy and deregulating industry, two GOP mainstays, have never resulted in more jobs and a stronger economy. Depressions and recessions are much more often the result. Do the research.
