On April 11, National Pet Day, I took a drive across Little River Road.
I have been driving it since the early 1970s.
It is now, unfortunately, known as a dumping site.
I have seen the sheriff’s chain gang out there many times cleaning the area.
I stopped at a wide spot on the side of the road.
My friend got out and just missed stepping on a used drug needle.
He looked over the edge and said he saw something over the bank and asked if I had binoculars, which I did.
He stated that is looked like a small pet carrier sitting upright.
I asked if he could see any movement and he said he wasn’t sure.
I got out and went down to the bank to look.
I let out a yell in anger, there was an older deceased orange tabby cat inside.
I could not believe what kind of cold-hearted person could do this.
You could see where the birds were pulling on the cloth that was inside the carrier to get to the cat.
I thought about it all night long.
Being the pet lover that I am, I knew I could not morally leave the cat there and went back in the morning to get it.
I brought the cat back home and buried it in our back yard alongside our very loved and missed pets.
To the heartless person: I have your pet carrier if you need it back.
