LETTER: Forks fiasco

I appreciated the Peninsula Daily News coverage of an inter-racial family’s recent attempt to have a Twilight-inspired camping trip to the Forks area, especially, most recently, the reporter’s interview with one member of the family.

Given the rude, intrusive, threatening actions described by her and reported in the PDN, including the felling of trees to impede their movements, it’s no doubt they felt fearful and possibly in danger.

Did the family of four, three of them female, really look like a threat to the safety and well-being of the Forks area?

You know that if the family were all Caucasian, none of this would have happened.

That a wingnut-inspired rumor could cause this kind of paranoid, vigilante behavior demonstrates breathtaking gullibility and deep-seated racism which is profoundly disappointing.

It would even be shocking if one hadn’t been paying attention to America’s behavior toward most of its minority groups over hundreds of years.
