LETTER: Don’t take away from honoring loved one by littering

My sister and I just heard something today that troubled us deeply.

Sometimes when a family is honoring a loved one who has been cremated and chooses the ocean to dispose of their ashes, the family members throw plastic or artificial flowers, wreaths and arrangements into our waters.

I don’t know if they realize, but our sea life eat the wire and plastic and suffer horribly before tragically dying.

Please, if you can spread the message, the families have our deepest sympathies on the loss of their family member, but artificial flowers should never be thrown in our waterways.

And we would like to give a big thank-you to those who take time out of their busy lives to pick up garbage and litter on our beaches.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

Linda Titus,

Port Angeles
