LETTER: Disputes letter on MAT clinic for spreading misinformation

From Sequim

The Oct. 14 letter regarding the MAT clinic perpetuates the misinformation and disinformation that has created a toxic, racist atmosphere in Sequim.

Hearing Examiner Phil Olbrechts did not rule that Sequim residents don’t have a voice in what happens in Sequim.

He ruled that SOS, Parkwood (the Jon Gibson Company) and Bob Bilow do not have legal standing, a legal concept, to bring their appeal.

SOS and its attorney should explain the concept to its members so they stop spreading false narratives.

The healing clinic will not be a “drug distribution center,” but rather an opioid treatment facility that brings Johns Hopkins-quality health care to our rural communities.

The tribe has a history of commitment to providing high-quality health care to all Sequim residents, whether or not they belong to the Tribe.

There is no evidence that profit is what motivates the tribe’s plans for the healing clinic.

City staff and city council members’ decisions followed the law, as they were obligated to do, regarding plans for the healing clinic.

They acted in the best interest of Sequim to avoid costly lawsuits the city would likely lose had it acted differently.

Vicki Lowe is not a tribal leader. She is not even a member of the tribe.

Rather she is a descendant of tribal and pioneer families.

It is time for Sequim to heal.

It is time for the misinformation and disinformation to stop.

It is time to end the racist opposition to the original residents of the land we call Sequim.
