LETTER: Can’t afford school tax levy

This current tax levy is the same one the Port Angeles School District tried to float in 2016, only to see voters turn it down, for good reason: We homeowners just can’t afford it!

It’s time for this old gratuitous “tax the homeowners” solution to the school funding problem to die a well-deserved death, and to find a new fundraising paradigm.

Perhaps the school district could create a fundraising committee dedicated to developing alternative ways to generate the much needed funds, such as a business model that could generate income to pay for the necessary renovations and retrofitting. Maybe the Port Angeles Business Association could assist them in developing this new and exciting project.

There are just too many low-income and poor homeowners who can’t afford a 175 percent tax increase. I’m sorry but it’s time to let outdated 19th century models go, and get with the 21st century.
