Port Angeles

The Port Angeles summer concert series is the longest on the North Olympic Peninsula with a performance every Wednesday evening — except July 3 — from this Wednesday to Sept. 11.

Admission is free and open to the public.

This year’s summer Concerts on the Pier series includes several local favorite bands, as well as bands from the Seattle area, and a national touring band from Portland, Ore., The Talbott Bros.

Music genres will be everything from classic rock and bluegrass to swamp funk and indie rock.

A standard of Port Angeles summers for more than 20 years, these community concerts — sponsored by Key Bank, Elwha River Casino, Red Lion Hotel and the Peninsula Daily News — are presented against the gorgeous summer backdrop of the Port Angeles Harbor in one direction and the Olympic Mountains in the other.

“We’re very excited about this year’s lineup,” said Marc Abshire, executive director of the Port Angeles Regional Chamber of Commerce.

“We’ve got some amazing talent coming in from Portland and Seattle, but we’re also going to be showcasing some of the best bands from right here on the Olympic Peninsula,” he said.

“The Chamber has enjoyed producing Concerts on the Pier each year, and we’re now partnering with the Juan de Fuca Foundation for the Arts to provide sustained, high-quality, and free musical performances in the beautiful setting of City Pier well into the future.

“We couldn’t do it without the great support we get from City Parks and Recreation and from our awesome sponsors.”

Audience members are encouraged to bring blankets or chairs to these informal, family-friendly performances.

If heavy wind or bad weather is expected, the performances might be moved to The Gateway pavilion at the corner of Lincoln and Front streets.
