Music on the Strait announces scholarship winners

PORT ANGELES — Music on the Strait has announced the recipients of the 2025 Dick and Alice Rapasky Community Music Scholarships.

Due to a $5,000 grant from the Port Angeles Rotary Club and other community donations, the scholarship committee was able to award a total of 22 scholarships for 2025.

The sixth-grade recipients are Beverly Fettermann, violin; Klaire Reynolds-Ruiz, violin; and Harper Waterkotte, viola.

The seventh-grade recipients are Violet Burkhard, violin; Connor Cammisa, cello; Amélie Cash, violin; Agnes Haxel, violin; Cheerish Mai, viola; and Jazlyn Shideler, violin.

The eighth-grade recipients are Haverly Herr, violin; Eve Dry, violin; Travis Baros, cello; Seth Baros, violin; and Chloe Fitzsimmons, cello.

Ninth-grade recipients include Desirae Benzler, violin; Avery Cammissa, viola; Tegan Delacruz, cello; Cooper Disque, viola; and Diego Waterkotte, cello.

Violinist Danielle Woodhouse is the sole 10th-grade recipient.

Cellist Braeden Baker-Huff and violinist Olivia Baros are the 11th-grade recipients.

The recipients were selected by a committee comprised of Traci Winters-Tyson, Vicki Helwick, Shirley Anderson, Phil Morgan-Ellis, James Garlick, Amanda Lukens and Jory Noble.

“In its third year, the Dick and Alice Rapasky Scholarship fund is continuing to give many aspiring young musicians access to meaningful private instruction on their instrument,” said Winters-Tyson, the scholarship committee chair. “It’s inspiring to see the growth in these students. I hope to see this fund continue to grow each year.”

The Alice Rapasky Memorial Scholarships are intended to assist qualified students, who otherwise could not afford them, take private music lessons.

The scholarship program, which was established in 2022, is available to pre-college string instrumental music students in Clallam County.

Recipients must be participating in their school music program or another community music project.
