Michael Carroll offers an evening of classical piano

PORT TOWNSEND — Classical pianist Michael Carroll will perform at Trinity United Methodist Church during its Candlelight Concert series at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Carroll will perform one set with no intermission at the church, located at 609 Taylor St., across from the Port Townsend Community Center.

The concert will be simulcast on KPTZ FM 91.9 and will stream live at www.trinityumcpt.org/concerts, where you also will find a link for ways to donate.

Admission to the concert is free, with a suggested donation of $15 per person.

The doors open at 6:30 p.m.; masks are encouraged for in-person attendees.

Half of the proceeds will go to the Jefferson County Food Bank Association.

The association’s mission is to serve county residents by providing food to those in need in an equitable manner, while maintaining an attitude and atmosphere that recognizes the dignity of each individual.

It supports four food banks in East Jefferson County: Port Townsend, Tri-Area, Quilcene and Brinnon.

Carroll will perform selections from Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms and Chopin.

“I tried to decide if there was a theme that would suggest why these composers go together, but I couldn’t except for the fact that they are all among the best piano pieces of their respective composers,” Carroll said.

Carroll began piano study at age 8 and has studied with Robert Van Meter at Clarion State College in Pennsylvania.

Carroll is also choral and vocal accompanist and has performed with many Seattle-area ensembles and soloists.

He was the staff pianist and program annotator for Seattle’s Thalia Symphony Orchestra for 10 years.

He is currently lives and teaches in Port Ludlow and is the co-director of the Port Townsend Symphony Orchestra Chamber Music series.
