KPTZ hosts Party at the Fort tonight

PORT TOWNSEND — KPTZ 91.9FM will host Party at the Fort, a concert and fundraiser featuring live music by the Polyrhythmics, tonight.

Doors will open at the USO Hall at Fort Worden at 6:30 p.m. with music starting at 7 p.m. Lowire — featuring Frank DePalma, Sean Mugrage and Cameron Dalsimer — will get the evening started.

Tickets are $25 and available online at www.brown papertickets.com or at Crossroads Music, Quimper Sound or the KPTZ radio station at Mountain View Commons.

The event, for those 21 and older, will offer a beer and wine garden. Raffle prizes are planned.

Polyrhythmic’ latest album, “Caldera,” showcases the instrumental eight-pieces’ blend of funk, soul, psychedelic rock, R&B, progressive jazz and Afrobeat. The record follows the Seattle band’s third album, “Octagon.”

Party at the Fort coincides with the station’s capital campaign to support the construction of a new, state-of-the-art station and transmitter at Fort Worden.

Last December, KPTZ began efforts to move into the basement of Building 305, the cornerstone facility in Fort Worden’s proposed Makers Square redevelopment project, and to relocate the radio station’s transmitter site to Artillery Hill.

As leases for its current facilities expire, KPTZ must reach its goal to secure a new, permanent home by 2020.

KPTZ has teamed up with Port Townsend Brewing to craft a special release beer, the Fort-ifier Pale Ale, which will be unveiled at tonight’s party.

A portion of every keg sold will be donated directly from Port Townsend Brewery to KPTZ’s capital campaign, along with revenue from every pint sold at participating establishments.
