PORT ANGELES — The Peninsula College Jazz Ensemble will present the eighth annual Jazz on the Lawn concert at noon Monday.
The free concert will be on the terraced lawn just east of Keegan Hall on Peninsula College’s Port Angeles campus at 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd.
It marks the 95th performance by the band since its founding in September 2008.
The outdoor venue offers a non-smoking, alcohol-free, informal environment in which to hear “America’s Classical Music.”
The PC Jazz Ensemble features Robbin Eaves on vocals with a 14-piece jazz band. Eaves will sing some standards from the repertoire of Frank Sinatra (“Summer Wind”), Ella Fitzgerald (“Goody, Goody”) and Etta Jones (“Don’t Go to Strangers”).
Also appearing as a featured vocalist will be Olga Palenga, a relatively new member of the band who is usually heard on piano and clarinet. Olga will sing “Autumn Leaves” and “Moonlight Serenade.”
The group will welcome special guest, Ed Donohue on trumpet and flugelhorn. Donohue is director of bands at Port Angeles’ Stevens Middle School and a renowned jazz soloist in the Pacific Northwest.
The band will perform music by Dizzy Gillespie, Mongo Santamaria, Freddie Hubbard, Benny Golson, Freddie Redd, Al Jolson, Spyro Gyra and David P. Jones, the conductor of the PC Jazz Ensemble.
