Olympic Music Festival to host cellist, pianist

PORT TOWNSEND — The Olympic Music Festival will host Pablo Ferrández and Julio Elizalde in a recital at 7 p.m. Monday.

The concert is at Fort Worden at the Wheeler Theater, 25 Eisenhower Ave. Tickets are $40 to $75 per person and are available at www.olympicmusicfestival.org.

Pianist Julio Elizalde, the festival’s artistic director, will be joined by cellist Pablo Ferrández for a program that includes Bruch’s Kol Nidrei, Op. 47; Beethoven’s Cello Sonata in G minor, Op. 5, No. 2; Rachmaninoff’s Vocalise, Op. 34; and Franck’s Sonata for Cello and Piano in A major.

Ferrández has debuted with the Seattle Symphony and the San Francisco Symphony and has performed alongside violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter with the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

Ferrández performs on the “Archinto,” a Stradivarius cello from 1689, which is on loan from a member of the Stretton Society.
