A reception for a new art exhibit, the First Friday Art Walk in Sequim and a theatre production of “Macbeth” highlight arts and entertainment events this weekend on the North Olympic Peninsula.
• The Port Angeles Fine Art Center will host a reception for the opening of “Water Connects Us All” from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. tonight at the center’s Esther Webster Gallery, 1203 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles.
The exhibition delves into the bonds created by water, explores the intersection of art, science and marine conservation, and celebrates the role that creativity plays in inspiring us toward meaningful action.
The show highlights the work of seven artists from the Pacific Northwest and around the world who bridge the gap between art and ocean science.
Participating artists include Courtney Mattison of San Francisco, Jill Pelto of Bellingham, Diane Roy of British Columbia, Joseph Rossano of Arlington, Natasha Russell of Scotland, Erik Speer of Bellevue and April Surgent of Port Townsend.
“Water Connects Us All” will remain on display in the Esther Webster Gallery from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays through April 6. For more information, visit www.pafac.org.
• First Friday Art Walk will celebrate with a red-themed walk from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. tonight at various venues in downtown Sequim.

Special events in February include:
— The Juan de Fuca Harmony Chorus will perform at various locations and along downtown sidewalks.
— The Sequim Arts Commission will host a reception for the opening of the sixth High Schools of the Olympic Peninsula Arts Exhibit from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Karen Kuznek-Reese Gallery at the Sequim Civic Center, 152 W. Cedar St.
The commission invited high school students across the Olympic Peninsula to submit entries for the exhibit and 33 submissions were selected featuring art by students from Sequim and Quilcene high schools.
— Blue Whole Gallery, 129 W. Washington St., will host a reception for the opening of “Earth Art” from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The exhibit features the clay art of Janet Piccola alongside the gourds of Jane Smith.
Piccola has been working with clay for 15 years and enjoys the stages of clay, going from mud to pottery.
Smith uses gourds as her canvas, beginning with growing, harvesting, drying and preparing her gourds. She uses a variety of techniques and embellishments in her designs, and the trinkets she uses to enhance her work come from her lifetime of collecting.
“Earth Art” will be on display from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays throughout February.
— Olympic Theatre Arts, 414 N. Sequim Ave., will present a panto performance of “Cinderella and the Enabling Habit” by Shannon Cosgrove at 7 p.m.

• Andrea Woods will open an exhibit, “Vietnam: People, Places, Cuisine,” from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday during the Second Saturday Art Walk in downtown Port Angeles.
Woods’ exhibit will be on display at Harbor Art Gallery, 114 N. Laurel St.
Woods, an impressionist oil painter, will display oil paintings celebrating the sights and experiences of Vietnam.
Woods has worked in many mediums but prefers the rich colors and varying textures of oil paints to create places where we would all like to go.
“Vietnam: People, Places, Cuisine” will be on display from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays in the gallery’s Featured Work room throughout February.
• Saltfire Theatre will finish its production of Shakespeare’s “Macbeth” with performances at 7 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the JFK Building on Fort Worden.

The production is directed by Genevieve Barlow and features the work of 34 local artists as cast, crew and design team.
Some matinee performances may be announced at a later date.
• Mariee Siou will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the Palindrome at Eaglemount Wine and Cidery, 1893 S. Jacob Miller Road, Port Townsend.

Siou’s 2007 debut, “Faces in the Rocks,” is considered a classic in the indie music scene.
Siou grew up on a small farm near the Yuba River in the Sierra Nevada foothills.
A neo-folk musician, Siou has toured Europe and the United States and has opened for artists such as Mazzy Star, Buffy St. Marie, Bert Jansch, Brightblack Morning Light, Bonnie “Prince” Billy and Joanna Newsom.
Wolfchild, a Seattle-based cinematic folk rock duo, will open for Siou.
• The model for the statue of Billy Frank Jr. will be on display at the Makah Museum through March 6.
The model will be at the Makah Cultural and Research Center, 1880 Bayview Ave.
The full-scale model was created by sculptor Haiying Wu and will be cast in bronze to create a statue for installation at the National Statuary Hall in Washington, D.C.
Frank, a Nisqually tribal leader and activist, fought to ensure the U.S. government would honor its treaty obligations to Washington tribes.
Frank was a special guest in 1999 during the Makah Tribe’s celebratory potlatch after it successfully exercised its treaty right to hunt whales.
The Makah Museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days per week. Admission is $10 per person and $8 for students, seniors and active duty military personnel. For more information, call the museum at 360-645-2711.
• Audreen Williams and Jeanette Stehr-Green will present “Pruning Blueberries for Productivity” at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Lazy J Tree Farm, 225 Gehrke Road, Port Angeles.
Williams and Stehr-Green will describe the typical growth pattern of a blueberry bush, outline a systematic approach to pruning blueberries and discuss factors that affect pruning practices.
They also will demonstrate recommended pruning techniques on live blueberry bushes and answer questions about selecting, growing and pruning blueberries.
Attendance is limited so pre-registration is recommended.
