PORT TOWNSEND — An encore screening of the Grammy-nominated film “The Music of Strangers: Yo-Yo Ma & The Silk Road Ensemble” is planned at noon Saturday to benefit the Swan School’s music program.
The doors at the Rose Theatre, 235 Taylor St., will open at 11:30 a.m. for the film.
Admission is a suggested donation of $12. Tickets are available at Swan School, 2345 Kuhn St., or the theater’s box office.
Preceding the film, the private school’s steel pan, marimba and percussion ensemble will perform.
The film has been screened before at the Rose Theatre. Its Academy Award-winning director, Morgan Neville, made an appearance at the 2017 Port Townsend Film Festival.
The film captures Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road Ensemble, in which master traditional musicians from diverse cultural backgrounds perform together and explore the connective and transformative powers of music, according to a news release.
“We are so fortunate to have a film like this — that highlights connecting to people through music — to inspire our young musicians and support their learning experiences,” said Russ Yates, Head of Swan School.
“As Yo-Yo Ma says in the film: ‘I’m always trying to figure out how I fit in the world …’ and I think this is something our young students face every day,” Yates said.
Proceeds will support the school’s integrated music program for children in preschool through sixth grade.
