‘Big Bad’ puts fairy-tale character on trial

PORT ANGELES — A trial is about to begin for an infamous criminal accused of stealing sheep, blowing down houses and impersonating a grandmother.

Notorious wolf

The notorious Big Bad Wolf of children’s fairy tale fame is on trial during the Port Angeles Community Players Children’s Theater production of “Big Bad” by Alec Strum and directed by Barbara Frederick, Alisandra Baccus and Faith Chamberlain.

Performances times

Performances are slotted at 7 tonight, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday at the Port Angeles Community Playhouse, 1235 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

Tickets, available only at the door, are $5 per person.

A family of four pays $20, and children younger than 8 get in free when accompanied by an adult.

An additional free performance will take place 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.

The Evil Stepmother, played by Jenna Hampton, isn’t happy about representing Mr. Big B Wolf, played by Finn Waknitz — especially when she is up against the Fairy Godmother, played by ShyAnn Welch, who has a reputation for winning tough cases.

Judge Wise Old Man, played by Reef Gelder, presides over the case, whose witnesses include Red Riding Hood (Kaitlyn Busch), her grandmother (Audrey Tesreau), pigs (Madeline Irwin, Mabel Waknitz, Nicholas Burke, Piper Titmus and Piper Wikert), Shepherdess (Olivia Lightfoot), the boy who cried wolf (Zade Harris), the woodcutter (Killian Waknitz) and Miss Muffit (Sarah Butterworth and Maria Burke).

The trial is being carried live on Enchanted Forest News, or EFN, by reporter Sydney Grimm (Ansel Clem) and his cameraman (Isaac Rutledge). The cast and crew also includes John Paul Burke, Melania Burke, Sky Gelder, Katya Hanes, Zoie Harris, Julia Rutledge, Hugh Waknitz and Cela Waknitz.

Established in 2013, PACP Children’s Theater has produced seven shows. Open to children ages 6-18, the theater provides hands-on experience in all aspects of a theater production, from on stage to behind the scenes.
