Firm picked for site work of Monroe Playfield

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles School Board has approved hiring Bruch & Bruch Construction of Port Angeles for the Monroe Playfield Project.

The Port Angeles company’s bid of $620,218 was the lowest of three the district received for site work that includes demolition and preparation, asphalt paving and irrigation.

The award was made on Thursday.

The $1.58 million project will be constructed on the site of the former Monroe Elementary School.

Funding for the playfield comes from the sale of the old district administrative services building on East Fourth Street for $950,000, sale of district property on Mount Pleasant for $118,000, and out of the $52.6 million capital projects levy voters approved in 2020.

The capital projects levy also funds renovation of Stevens Middle School. The board on Thursday approved education specifications submitted by Integrus Architecture for the renovation of the school at 1139 W. 14th St., in Port Angeles.

The next step will be creation of a schematic design for the school.
