PORT ANGELES — A man armed with a 9mm handgun allegedly robbed The Dollar Tree store in Port Angeles.

No one was injured Monday evening, but the suspect, described as a white male wearing an off-white long sleeve shirt, blue jeans and black and white sneakers, got away with $1,894, the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.

Sheriff’s deputies arrived shortly after 8 p.m. at 3456 E. Highway 101 after they received a report of a man who had a shirt wrapped around his face and appeared to be armed with a semiautomatic handgun.

Store employees said the man waved the gun around, then pointed it at them and demanded money or he was going to shoot them, the press release stated.

The man fumbled with the handgun, causing two 9mm bullets to fall to the floor. The suspect ordered a clerk to sit down while the night shift manager opened the safe and handed over two cash register trays.

Then the suspect exited the store and left in an unknown vehicle. Witnesses described squealing tires as the vehicle left, the press release stated.

Chief Deputy Amy Bundy wrote in a Wednesday morning email that no new information was available, but deputies are continuing their video canvassing in the area.

Video canvassing refers to contacting nearby residents and businesses to see if they have any relevant video footage of an incident.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 360-417-2262 or leave an anonymous tip at https://www.clallam.net/cnmaster-c/nwformeml.php.
