Sequim man arrested for allegedly hitting State Patrol building

Deputy: Vehicle, driver located after driving through fence, across yard

PORT ANGELES — A Sequim man was arrested Sunday for allegedly crashing a vehicle into the State Patrol detachment east of Port Angeles before driving through a fence off Bagley Creek Road.

Todd A. Alstrup, 48, was booked for investigation of two counts of hit and run and one count of driving under the influence of alcohol.

$20,000 bail

He was being held Monday in the Clallam County jail on $20,000 bail.

A State Patrol sergeant was working inside the State Patrol detachment at 62 Old Olympic Highway when a vehicle struck a corner of the office at about 9:40 p.m. Sunday, Clallam County Chief Criminal Deputy Brian King said.

The collision caused extensive damage to the building’s brick and masonry siding and pushed the exterior wall about a foot inward, King said.

The sergeant was not injured, King said.

About 15 minutes later, deputies responded to a report of a vehicle that had been driven through a fence and across a yard in the 1700 block of South Bagley Creek Road, King said.

Sheriff’s deputies and State Patrol troopers found Alstrup inside a Toyota Highlander that had come to a stop in the yard. There were no other occupants in the vehicle.

“Deputies investigating the two scenes identified physical evidence linking Alstrup’s vehicle to the damaged [Washington State Patrol] building,” King said in a Monday news release.

“As a result of the investigation, deputies developed probable cause that Alstrup was responsible for the hit and run collision at the Washington State Patrol Office minutes prior to the collision on South Bagley Creek Road.”
