Brinnon man to serve more than four years in prison

Coccia pleads guilty to multiple counts of theft, burglary

PORT TOWNSEND — Johnathan M. Coccia of Brinnon has been sentenced to more than four years in prison and must receive substance abuse treatment after he pleaded guilty to multiple incidents of theft, burglary and unlawful possession of a firearm, Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney James Kennedy said.

Coccia will serve 50.75 months in prison followed by an additional 50.75 months of community custody, according to a press release from the prosecuting attorney’s office.

Coccia was arrested on Jan. 13, 2024, for attempted theft and unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon after he and another suspect were seen attempting to steal a 16-foot-long double-axle utility trailer that had been chained to a tree by connecting it to their vehicle, the prosecuting attorney’s office said.

When the two suspects were located, Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies discovered a handgun with a defaced serial number and a full magazine in their possession.

On April 14, 2024, deputies found $8,000 in tools and three Stihl chainsaws valued at $2,000 at a property on Dosewallips Road that had been reported stolen. Coccia and a second suspect were arrested for theft and possession of stolen property.

Coccia was again on April 27, 2024, for unlawful possession of a firearm after he entered a home in Brinnon and threatened the occupants. A rifle loaded with 16 rounds with its safety off was found at a location where Coccia had fled after the incident.

The rifle matched the description of one Coccia was seen carrying, the prosecuting attorney’s office said.

Kennedy praised the work of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office in arresting Coccia and recovering the stolen property.

“This case underscores our commitment to holding individuals accountable for crimes that threaten the safety and security of our community,” he said. “The guilty plea and substantial sentence reflect the severity of these offenses, while the inclusion of substance abuse treatment aims to address underlying issues and support rehabilitation.”
