UPS Store in Sequim closes again

Former owner says franchise sale not final yet

SEQUIM — The UPS Store in Sequim has closed once again.

Jenny Robinson, a spokesperson for The UPS Store, Inc., said via email that the store at 1400 W. Washington St., Suite 104, is permanently closed and that operational staff were on site Wednesday to retrieve mail for mailbox customers.

“Any mailbox customers receiving mail (through Feb. 10) can pick it up at the local post office as they submit their change of address,” she said.

“Again, we apologize to customers for any inconvenience this has caused.”

The store reopened with limited hours in December, after temporary closures over about a month’s span — with mixed messages online from the corporate office saying it’s “permanently closed.”

Former The UPS Store staff said in December the business offers mailboxes to about 300 customers along with other mail services. However, computers were down during the limited hours, only allowing cash transactions and limited services, former staffers said.

Owner Lisa Hollenback sent out an email to mailbox customers that the Sequim franchise’s sale has been pending, with a closing date unknown.

The email said that because of current negotiations, the landlord would change the locks Feb. 1.

“At that time, you will no longer be able to access your mail or packages,” she said.

Hollenback recommended customers file a change of address form with the U.S. Post Office, and individually contact each company providing services to give them customers’ new addresses.

“This is not how we hoped things would go, and it is heartbreaking to even put this letter out to you all,” she wrote. “You have been wonderful to work with and to have known.”

Hollenback also owned the now-closed UPS Store in Port Angeles at 136 E. Eighth St.

Specific reasons for the closures, and the name of the potential new Sequim franchise owner, was not provided by UPS representatives.
