PORT ANGELES — Vickie Swanson is Olympic Medical Center’s chief nursing officer, OMC officials announced last week.

A registered nurse since 1986 who has held various roles over her career, Swanson joined Olympic Medical Center as director of surgical services in 2018 and has worked as interim chief nursing officer since November 2020.

“While (her previous roles) were all clinical in nature, Vickie brings a strong business acumen that will also serve OMC well,” OMC CEO Darryl Wolfe said last week.

As chief nursing officer, Swanson will lead all aspects of nursing practice to ensure the quality, safety and successful execution of strategic initiatives across OMC, organization representatives said.

“Together with the executive team, Swanson will review and champion quality, safety and operational initiatives to meet the needs of OMC’s patients, families, staff and the community,” Wolfe said.

According to Wolfe, Swanson “did an amazing job in the interim role” and after a nationwide search she was selected for the position.

According to Wolfe, Swanson has been described as a “boots-on-the-ground” leader who has integrated herself with the staff, often jumping in to help in any role needed.

Swanson’s nursing and leadership experience spans surgery, long-term care, home health, operations, education and consulting at organizations such as Deloitte and Touche, Florida Hospital, JA Thomas, Florida Hospital College of Health Sciences, Mederi Home Health Agency and the State of Florida.

Swanson joins the executive team at OMC, which includes Wolfe, chief financial officer Lorraine Cannon, chief medical officer Scott Kennedy, chief physician officer Josh Jones, chief human resources officer/general counsel Jennifer Burkhardt and risk/compliance officer Donna Davison.
