SEQUIM — Clallam County Fire District No. 3 crews quickly extinguished three small grass fires in Sequim earlier this week.

The blazes were reported at 3:43 p.m. Wednesday between U.S. Highway 101 and the new Black Bear Diner, which is part of the Holiday Inn Express & Conference Center plaza.

No injuries were reported.

Fire District No. 3 spokesman Patrick Young said the largest of the fires was about 20 feet by 30 feet. It was burning in waist-high grasses and weeds.

“A moderate breeze out of the northwest was slowly moving the fire toward heavy brush,” Young said in a statement. “Crews quickly contained all three fires.”

Young said the fires may have been the result of a vehicle experiencing mechanical difficulties.

Fire District No. 3 vehicles, three Sequim police vehicles and two State Patrol units responded to the fires.
