Gasoline cleaned up after boat sinks in Gig Harbor

GIG HARBOR — A Tuesday night spill of 25 gallons of gasoline from a sunken vessel at Gig Harbor has been cleaned up, a state Department of Ecology spokeswoman said Wednesday.

“Today, it’s basically monitoring the situation. The main pollution threat has been responded to,” Linda Kent told The News Tribune of Tacoma.

The leak on the 28-foot pleasure craft was discovered shortly after 6 p.m. at Lucas Landing.

Workers with Ecology, the Coast Guard, Gig Harbor Fire and a contractor used absorbent pads and an oil sweep to clean up the spill.

Global Diving and Salvage divers plugged the leak and recovered an additional 15 gallons from the fiberglass boat.
