PORT ANGELES — The Ballet Workshop, a Port Angeles institution since 1970, has marked a new beginning.
Kate Long, the new owner, and Sylvia Wanner, the founder, stood in front of the Ballet Workshop at 117 W. First St. for a ribbon-cutting last Thursday afternoon, with fellow dance teachers and supporters around them.
Wanner retired after producing “Coppelia” in June 2013, her swan song after numerous stagings of “The Nutcracker” and other classical ballets.
Long, a professional ballet dancer and master class teacher, finalized her purchase of the Ballet Workshop this fall.
The school sent about 12 young dancers to perform in Northwest Ballet Theatre’s “The Nutcracker,” staged Saturday and Sunday at the Port Angeles High School Performing Arts Center.
Long and her faculty, Cheryl Koenig and Tiffany Gillespie, plan to stage a full production of “The Nutcracker” in December 2015.
