COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Peninsula women win, move into sole possession of first in North

PORT ANGELES — Millie Long and Chasity Selden combined for 27 points, 16 coming as Peninsula seized control over Whatcom in the third quarter of the Pirates’ 80-63 win over Whatcom on Wednesday.
Ituau Tuisaula scored 19 of her game-high 24 points in the first half as Peninsula (11-2, 19-4) claimed its 11th consecutive North Region game. She also led both teams in rebounding with 14 boards and added two blocks, two steals and a pair of assists in just 25 minutes of action.
Up 40-33 at halftime, the Pirates clamped down defensively in the third quarter, limiting the Orcas to just 2 of 16 shooting to win the quarter 24-7.
Long scored nine of her 17 in the third and Selden chipped in with seven of her 10 as Peninsula broke loose.
Tati Kamae also contributed with 11 points and 13 rebounds along with four steals and three assists.
Along with the Pirate victory, Olympic upended Shoreline 64-56 Wednesday night to give Peninsula sole control of first place over the Dolphins (9-3, 17-8) with two regular season games remaining for each squad.
The Pirates visit Edmonds on Saturday.
