SEQUIM — Firefighters from Clallam County Fire District 3 extinguished two brush fires along the runway at Diamond Point Airport.

Crews were called at 11:09 a.m. Monday after a community work party using propane torches to repair cracks in the asphalt touched off two separate fires, the fire district said.

One was contained at 2 acres and the other at 0.2 acres, the fire district reported.

The first crew established command and requested an additional engine from Blyn and brush engine from a Sequim station, the fire district said.

A wet line was created around both fires as the wind began to gust to 11 mph, according to the fire district.

Fire District 3 has responded to 56 vegetation fires this year, accounting for nearly 52 percent of its total fire calls, district officials reported.

A full fire ban remains in effect in Clallam County.
