LEFTIES: Bats explode for PA; 30 runs in two wins

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Lefties’ bats erupted over the weekend, scoring 15 runs in a 15-12 win over Driveline on Saturday and another 15 runs in a 15-4 win Sunday.
Richie Amavizca of Santa Barbara City College and Trevor Tishenkel of California each had three hits in Sunday’s game.
Amavizca scored four runs Sunday, while Garrett Lake (Purdue-Fort Wayne) scored three.
Steven Brooks of Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo had a great game on the mound, coming in to pitch in relief and going 4⅓ innings, striking out nine batters. Closer Zack Thomas (Dixie State) struck out another four Driveline batters in the eighth and ninth innings.
Coleman Schmidt of Saint Mary’s also had a two-run double. Tishenkel drove in two runs with a bases-loaded single and drove in another run with a suicide squeeze.

Port Angeles 15, Driveline 12
PORT ANGELES — The Lefties got off to a 8-0 lead in the first inning against Driveline, then held on for a 15-12 win in a three-hour, 50-minute game.
Port Angeles scored two runs in the second and two in the fourth to build up a 12-3 lead. Driveline started nibbling into that lead with a four runs in the sixth, a run in the seventh and three more in the eighth to make the game close. The Lefties tacked on what turned out to be important insurance runs with two in the sixth and a run in the eighth.
Kaden Lewis started the game and got the win. Luke Saunders finished the game on the mound to collect a save.
The Lefties are halfway through a long 12-game homestand. They return to the field at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday with another nonleague series against the Highline Bears, a Seattle Summer League team.
