OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK — Frank Wuren of Silverdale checks his cellphone at the base of Madison Creek Falls on the north edge of Olympic National Park in the Elwha River Valley west of Port Angeles last week.

Although some areas of the park are reopening to visitors, most areas remain closed, including Hurricane Ridge, the Hoh Rainforest and the Pacific beaches, as officials decide on a timeline to cope with the COVID-19 health emergency.
