Clallam County Sheriff’s Office Chain Gang busy in local area

PORT ANGELES — The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office Chain Gang picked up 100 pounds of roadside litter from seven miles of Camp Hayden Road, 320 pounds of roadside litter from eight miles of Blue Mountain Road, 400 pounds of roadside litter from 8 miles of Deer Park Road and 200 pounds of roadside litter from 7 miles of O’Brien Road during the week of Oct. 14-18.

Crew members also picked up 940 pounds of litter from three illegal dumpsites on Elwha River Road, 200 pounds of litter from three illegal dumpsites on Woods Road, 500 pounds of litter from an illegal dumpsite on Little River Road, 400 pounds of litter from an illegal dumpsite on Camp Hayden Road and 80 pounds of litter from an illegal dumpsite on Deer Park Road.

Crew members also moved desks and other furniture back into the county detectives’ offices.

Crew members assisted the county Roads Division by planting trees and shrubs with Jennifer Chenoweth on the Dungeness Bridge at Ward and Woodcock roads.

Crew members also pulled weeds with Chenoweth at the Mount Pleasant rain garden and at the Deer Park Rest Area.

So far this year, the chain gang has cleaned 202.25 miles of roadway, picked up 11,590 pounds of roadside litter, picked up 185,550 pounds of illegal dumpsite litter, trimmed 94,358 feet of guardrail, pulled or sprayed approximately 31,580 Scotch broom plants and brushed 9.5 miles of county right-of-way.

For the Forest Service, the chain gang has so far this year cleaned 11.1 miles of forest service roads or trails.
