Student Arts Week to be celebrated at Peninsula College

PORT ANGELES — Peninsula College will celebrate Student Arts Week today through Friday.

Student artwork will be on display from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily in the Pirate Union Building (PUB) Gallery of Art as part of the annual event sponsored by the college’s humanities division.

Wednesday will feature a variety of arts activities that are free and open to the public.

There will be a sidewalk chalk art contest from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the quad in front of the PUB.

The contest is free to students and by donation for members of the public.

The ceramics department will have a free demonstration of raku firing from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the lawn to the south of the PUB.

There also will be a reception for student artists at 4 p.m. in the PUB gallery.

The sixth Moving Pictures Film Festival will kick off at 7 p.m. in the Maier Performance Hall.

This year’s issue of the Tidepools art and literary magazine will be unveiled at 7 p.m. Friday at a reception in the Carver Room at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.

Throughout the week, other Arts Week events include performances by the music and drama departments, a metallurgic art display by the welding program, awards for outstanding English essays and a poetry reading during Studium Generale.
