CHIMACUM — Two people were airlifted after a single-vehicle rollover wreck on state Highway 19 near Chimacum on Sunday afternoon.

State Patrol Trooper Chelsea Hodgson said the wreck was first reported at 12:49 p.m.

The driver, Mark Raney, 61, of Port Townsend told troopers that as he was driving northbound on Highway 19 he attempted to dodge something that was in the road.

Caught on dirt

As he attempted to go around the object, the vehicle’s wheels got caught in soft dirt on the side of the road, causing the vehicle to flip.

Hodgson said no impairment was suspected.

Raney and his passenger, Eric Cartensen, 40, of Port Townsend, were airlifted to Harborview Medical Center, though a trooper at the scene told Hodgson “they should be fine,” she said.

Also in the vehicle was a dog that was uninjured. She said troopers took the dog to a local shelter to be picked up when the owner is released from the hospital.
