OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK — A vehicle driving down Hurricane Ridge Road toward Port Angeles rolled onto its top near the south side of the first tunnel Saturday evening.

The driver and the four passengers, all visiting from Bainbridge Island, escaped the wreck without injury, according to Clallam Fire District No. 2.

The driver of the 1985 Toyota Land Cruiser told firefighters he had the vehicle in second gear driving down the hill when the vehicle slid into the guardrail and slid back onto the roadway.

The vehicle hit a dry spot in the roadway as it was sliding and rolled over, landing on its top.

The driver kicked out the passenger window and climbed out to help the other four exit the vehicle.

Olympic National Park and Clallam Fire District No. 2 responded to the wreck at 4:58 p.m.
