Black belt testing

SEQUIM — Bodystrong Taekwon-do of Sequim recently held black belt testing for five students.

John Golbeck, Troy Phipps and Trenton Phipps tested for second degree black belts.

Larry Muckley and Jaden Rego underwent their first black belt level testing.

Each candidate performed five of the 12 patterns they have learned, a pattern representing a set series of movements varying from 19 to 44 techniques.

They also demonstrated knowledge of new techniques, engaged in competition sparring, broke wood and roof tiles to display the power they have developed and completed a written test based on the knowledge of the art, its techniques and philosophy while achieving at least an 80 percent.

Golbeck, age 61, also received an award for “Best at Test.”
