PORT ANGELES — Horticulturist Gordon Clark will begin the 2017 Clallam County Washington State University Master Gardener “Green Thumb Garden Tips” at noon today.

The presentation on pruning will be in the county commissioners’ meeting room (160) at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St.

The presentation is free and open to the public, though donations to help offset copying costs for handouts are accepted.

Clark will demonstrate formative pruning techniques for young trees to create a balanced branch system easy to manage and aimed at giving the tree a long and productive life.

He will discuss reasons for pruning young fruit and ornamental deciduous trees and appropriate seasonal pruning times.
