SEQUIM —The Safeway store at 680 W. Washington St. in Sequim was evacuated Friday because of smoke coming from a vent, Clallam County Fire District No. 3 officials said.

Thick smoke was reported at about 9:13 a.m. near the front of the store were lottery tickets are sold, District 3 Assistant Chief Dan Orr said.

“It look like the fan motor went out,” Orr said.

The store was evacuated as a precaution.

The faulty fan was isolated and the store reopened shortly after noon.

An electrician was on scene.

“All’s fine,” Orr said Friday.
