Clallam Public Utility District sets limits on customers using Port Angeles water

PORT ANGELES — Stage 3 water restrictions have been imposed directly east of Port Angeles on Clallam County Public Utility District customers who are connected to the city’s water system.

They join city water customers who had similar drought-related limitations imposed Wednesday.

PUD officials announced the restrictions Thursday for 1,555 households in the Gales Addition, Monroe and Mount Angeles water districts.

“Per the PUD’s agreement with the city, we coordinate our response to water shortages because we share their water source: the Elwha River,” said Mike Kitz, the PUD’s water and wastewater system superintendent

The restrictions affects all PUD water customers in the Port Angeles area west of Morse Creek, including 4 Seasons Ranch and Cedar Park Tracts.

Panoramic Heights customers are not affected.

There are 1,299 water customers in Gales Addition, 171 in Mount Angeles and 85 in Monroe.

Alternate days

Customers with even-numbered addresses are expected to do outdoor watering only on even-numbered dates, while those with odd-numbered addresses should water only on odd-numbered dates.

Vehicle washing also is prohibited for safety-related purposes.

Under the city’s restrictions, vehicle washing is allowed if customers use a hose with a shutoff nozzle or a bucket.

All other customers are expected to minimize their overall use of watering use.

Gov. Jay Inslee declared a regional drought emergency due to the lack of Olympic Mountains snowpack and on May 15 declared a statewide drought emergency as well.
