PORT TOWNSEND — The Wesley Bell Ringers, a 225-piece bell choir, will bring the music of “Phantom of the Opera,” “The Little Mermaid” and more to Port Townsend’s Trinity United Methodist Church this Monday night.

The 7:30 p.m. concert is part of the Salt Lake City-based Bell Ringers’ North American tour.

And while admission is free, donations are welcome at the church, 609 Taylor St.

The Wesley Bell Ringers, a music ministry of Utah’s Christ United Methodist Church, began in 1963 with nine young ringers and 25 bells.

From the very beginning, though, it was expected that if you wanted to participate you would be dedicated to the group, commit to play handbells to the best of your ability, and most important, devoted to caring for and about the other members of the group.

Today the choir is composed of 27 teenage ringers who’ve played chimes and bells across the United States and Canada, including at Mount Rushmore and Disneyland.

Monday’s concert will range from Andrew Lloyd Webber and J.S. Bach to music by many of the finest arrangers and composers in the world of handbells, according to Trinity United’s news release.
