NEAH BAY — State Highway 112 was reduced to a single lane twice Monday due to small mud and rock slides on the eastbound lane at milepost 3, east of Neah Bay.

The lane was blocked twice, one by a morning slide and another in the afternoon, said Claudia Bingham-Baker, spokeswoman for the state Department of Transportation.

Rocky debris was reported on the roadway at 6:10 a.m. Monday, but the road was cleared and reopened by 7 a.m., Bingham Baker said.

However, more material fell and again blocked the eastbound lane at 12:30 p.m. It was reopened at 3:32 p.m., she said.

A Transportation crew arrived at the area at about 2 p.m. to clear the debris and fully reopen the road.

An additional small slide was reported in the area but did not block the road, she said.

Small slides are common on the stretch of Highway 112 near Neah Bay.

A mudslide 5.6 miles southeast of Neah Bay also reduced the highway to one-lane traffic for about five hours last Monday morning.
