WEEKEND: Winter wonders warm up Port Townsend this Saturday

PORT TOWNSEND — Carolers, miniature train rides, Victorian parlor tours and a paper tree decorating showcase are among the holiday treats lined up in Port Townsend this Saturday.
Members of Key City Public Theatre will sing carols in the streets from
2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Families are invited to ride the Kiwanis Choo-Choo from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
To board the train, meet across from the Jefferson Museum of Art and History at 540 Water St.
A $5 donation is suggested.
Proceeds will benefit school arts education and music programs in Port Townsend schools.
The Port Townsend Main Street program is coordinating the rides.

Victorian parlor tours
This Saturday will be the last of the season’s Victorian Holiday Open Parlor Tours.
The tour from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. is of restored Victorian homes that have been converted to bed-and-breakfast inns.
The tour this Saturday is of Blue Gull Inn, Huber’s Inn, Commander’s Beach House and Bishop Victorian Hotel.
Tickets are $15. Reservations are recommended. Tickets can be purchased at www.vicfest.org/yule or at the Blue Gull Inn, 1310 Clay St.
The tours are sponsored by Olympic Peninsula Steam and the Victorian Society in America-Northwest chapter.
Tree decorating contest
From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. will be the Port Townsend Paper Christmas Tree Decorating Contest Showcase.
The showcase will be at the Cotton Building at 607 Water St.
The contest featured 36-inch cardboard fold-out trees decorated by contest entrants in whatever manner they chose.
Judging was done using digital photos of the entries that were sent to a panel of judges.
Judges selected 12 winners in various categories who will share in $675 in cash prizes.
The contest was hosted by the Port Townsend Paper Corp.
‘Santa Shops Here’
During the “Santa Shops Here” promotion in progress at 50 businesses in Port Townsend, those who spend $500 can pluck a $25 gift certificate off the Port Townsend Main Street office wall at 211 Taylor St., Suite 3.
“There are still plenty of gift certificates available on the Wall of Gift Certificates,” said Mari Mullen, program director.

The office is staffed Mondays through Fridays.
A pub crawl originally set for Monday has been canceled.
