GIRLS SWIMMING AND DIVING: Port Angeles’ Macias takes third at state; other area results

FEDERAL WAY — Port Angeles sophomore Jaine Macias swam to a pair of top-five finishes at the Class 2A state meet at King County Aquatic Center over the weekend.
Macias placed third in the 100-yard breaststroke and took fifth in the 200 individual medley.
She also swam with the Roughriders’ sixth-place 200 medley relay and their ninth-place 400 freestyle relay teams.
Joining Macias on both relay teams were Taylor Beebe, Carter Juskevich and Audra Perrizo.
As a team, Port Angeles placed eighth at state with 114 points.
Juskevich placed seventh and Perrizo was 15th in the 200 freestyle finals Saturday.
Juskevich also placed ninth and Kylee Reid 15th in the 500 freestyle.
Reid also was 16th in the 200 individual medley, Perrizo took 14th in 100 free and Beebe placed 12th in the 100 backstroke.
Port Angeles’ 200 free relay team of Erin Edwards, Hailey Scott, Lum Fu and Reid took 16th.
In 1-meter diving, Haili Farnam placed 14th in the finals and Fu was 16th.
Port Townsend’s Rose Ridder was the North Olympic Peninsula’s highest placer in the diving competition, coming in eighth.
Ridder, a senior, also placed eighth in the 50 free and helped the Redhawks reach the finals in to relays.
The 200 free relay came in 10th, while the 400 free relay was 13th.
Both relays were made up of Ridder, Ismay Gale, Tanner Matthew and Chloe Rogers.
Port Townsend finished 14th out of 47 teams.
Sequim did not have any swimmers advance to Saturday’s state finals.
Freshman Sydnee Linnane placed 19th in the 100 backstroke preliminaries and Dani Barrow took 21st in the 500 freestyle prelims.
Emily Van Dyken made the diving semifinals, where she placed 20th.
