Peninsula College women's soccer team advances to NWAC championship game with 2-1 win over Lane

TUKWILA — The Peninsula College women’s soccer team is one win from a third straight Northwest Athletic Conference championship after defeating Lane 2-1 on Saturday at Starfire Sports Complex.

Tasha Inong scored the winning goal for Peninsula in the second overtime.

Standing in the Pirates’ way of a three-peat is Everett, the only team to beat Peninsula this season.

The Pirates and Titans played a scoreless first half Saturday. Peninsula scored first when Michele Whan volleyed the ball into the net in the 59th minute.

But 14 minutes later, Taylor Boyer tallied the equalizer for Lane, and neither team scored again in regulation. Or in the first 10-minute overtime.

Early in the second extra period, Solana Ashe threw the ball into Inong, who turned the defender and booted the ball for a goal in the 103rd minute.

Lane became only the third team to score against the Pirates this season. Another of those three teams is Everett, which defeated Peninsula 1-0 on Sept. 17.

The Pirates and Trojans play for the championship Sunday at 3 p.m. at Starfire.
