EYE ON CLALLAM: Commissioners eye hearing examiner replacement

The three Clallam County commissioners will discuss options for replacing Hearing Examiner Mark Nichols on Monday.

The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. in the commissioners’ boardroom (160) at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

Nichols was elected as Clallam County prosecuting attorney and will be sworn in later this month.

Commissioners Monday also will discuss recommendations for the distribution of affordable housing and homeless funds, a grant for an on-site septic system management plan and a contract with the state Department of Ecology for work on the lower Dungeness River.

The board will hold its business meeting at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Action items include:

■ An agreement with the Port Angeles School District for Internet and social media safety training.

■ Contract amendments with the Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery and Washington Connection.

■ Notice of bids due Dec. 16 for an interpretive gateway center project.

Port Angeles city

The Port Angeles City Council will open a public hearing on the 2015 budget when it meets Tuesday.

The meeting will be at 6 p.m. in council chambers at City Hall, 321 E. Fifth St.

The proposed $20,065,000 budget would include an increase in harbor cleanup revenue and expenditure because of a Department of Ecology grant and insurance proceeds, and an increase in Medic I revenues because of higher rates.

City funding would be provided to health and human services and the Olympic Peninsula Humane Society.

The budget would include a 1 percent property tax increase.

The council is expected to continue the budget hearing until Dec. 2.

The council will hear a third-quarter report from the Port Angeles Downtown Association and consider raising the industrial transmission electric rate.

The council also will consider raising rates for self-haulers to the Blue Mountain Drop Box Facility. No fee is charged, or considered, for recycling.

Sequim schools

The Sequim School Board will hear the results of community forums on a proposed building projects and may consider placing a multimillion-dollar bond on the Feb. 10 ballot when it meets Monday.

The board will meet at 6 p.m. at 503 N. Sequim Ave.

No final decision has been made on placing the bond on the ballot, the final amount of the bond — although the board has discussed $49 million — or the final list of projects that would be done.

The board has until Dec. 27 to pass a resolution to place a measure on the February ballot.

Four community forums were held this month.

Clallam Transit

The Clallam Transit board will consider a resolution to adopt a disadvantaged business enterprise plan Monday.

The meeting will begin at 1 p.m. at the Clallam Transit System building at 830 W. Lauridsen Blvd.

Other agenda items include revision of a capital asset depreciation policy, acceptance of a Washington State Transit Insurance Pool mutual aid agreement and the procurement of a bud engine.

Board of Health

The Clallam County Board of Health will hear updates on the 2014-15 flu season, local health department responsibilities for the west African Ebola outbreak and naloxone access in Clallam County on Tuesday.

The meeting will begin at 1:30 p.m. in Room 160 of the county courthouse.

The health board also will consider the appointment of Dr. Susan Turner as deputy health officer.

Peninsula College

Peninsula College trustees will meet Tuesday.

The meeting will begin at 2 p.m. in the Cornaby Center (A-12) on the Peninsula College campus at 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

Conservation district

The Clallam Conservation District will discuss a pollution identification and correction plan update Tuesday.

The meeting will begin at 3 p.m. at Armory Square in Port Angeles, 228 W. First St., Suite H.

Planning Commission

The Clallam County Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on current-use assessment applications for the first half of 2014 on Wednesday.

The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the commissioners’ meeting room (160) at the Clallam County Courthouse.

Planning Commission members also will discuss the draft county Shoreline Master Program update and county zoning for recreational marijuana businesses.

Olympic Medical Center

Olympic Medical Center commissioners will consider adopting a 2015 budget, a 1 percent property tax levy increase and a 2015-17 strategic plan Wednesday.

The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in Linkletter Hall in the lower conference area of the hospital at 939 E. Caroline St., Port Angeles.

The board also will hear an update from OMC Foundation Executive Director Bruce Skinner on the cash-strapped physical therapy pool.

Other agenda items include new provider introductions, a third-quarter financial report, an administrator’s report on operations and legislative advocacy, and an introduction to a proposed CT scan replacement project.

Library system

The North Olympic Library System Board of Trustees will conduct a second public hearing on the proposed 2015 budget when they meet Thursday.

The meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.

Marine resources

The Clallam County Marine Resources Committee will meet in the commissioners’ meeting room of the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday.
