NEWS BRIEFS — Jefferson Healthcare meeting slated today (Friday) in Port Townsend . . . and other items

PORT TOWNSEND — Jefferson Healthcare commissioners will hear updates on a variety of projects during a special meeting from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today.

Commissioners will meet in the Home Health Conference Room on the third floor at 2500 W. Sims Way, Suite 302.

No action will be taken.

Mike Glenn, chief executive officer, will update commissioners on the emergency services building, including interim financing.

He also will address the Epic medical records system, the capital budget, Jefferson Healthcare clinics and providers, the 2015-16 strategic plan process, mineral rights and advocacy planning.

An executive session is planned on real estate.

Lesson in gratitude at PA church

PORT ANGELES — Unity in the Olympics, 2917 E. Myrtle St., will hold a 10:30 a.m. service Sunday with guest speaker Niobe Weaver.

The lesson is “The Kite of Gratitude: Grab it by the Tail and Soar.”

Weaver is a singer focusing on vibrational health and wellness. She will include some of her original songs as part of the lesson.

Free child care is available during the service.

A time for silent meditation will be held from 10 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.

All are welcome.

Hebrew classes

Biblical Hebrew classes will take place at 3 p.m. at Cedarbrook Adventist Christian School, 461 Kennedy Road, Port Hadlock, every Sunday and at Sequim Calvary Chapel, 91 S. Boyce Road, every Thursday.

The classes start at an introductory level.

All ages and skill levels are welcome.

There is no tuition, though donations are welcome.

Friends gathering

PORT TOWNSEND — Port Townsend Friends Meeting will hold a public open house at its new meetinghouse, 1841 Sheridan St., on Sunday.

The group — officially members of the Religious Society of Friends but often known as Quakers — will gather at 9:30 a.m. and have regular silent worship from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sunday.

Following worship, the meeting house will be open until 3 p.m. to greet visitors.

Monday Musicale scheduled

PORT ANGELES — Monday Musicale will offer public entertainment at Queen of Angels Hall, 209 W. 11th St., at 1 p.m. Monday.

The musical entertainment will be preceded by a noon meeting for the group.

The objective of Monday Musicale is to encourage music study in schools.

Health summit

PORT ANGELES — Clallam County Health and Human Services will host an update to the 2013 Health Summit at Olympic Medical Center, Linkletter Hall, 939 Caroline St., from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday.

The six priority areas chosen at the summit will be addressed. They are:

■ Medical home/availability of primary providers.

■ Mental health/early identification, access to outpatient services, crisis intervention.

■ Chronic disease prevention/management.

■ Substance abuse: opiate, alcohol, tobacco.

■ Oral health and dental access.

■ Early learning/healthy parenting skills.

In addition, information on Accountable Communities of Health and regional support networks will be discussed by Dr. Tom Locke, Clallam and Jefferson counties’ health officer.

The public is invited, though seating is limited.

‘River’ film screens

PORT ANGELES — A screening of “Return of the River” will be held at the Elwha Klallam Heritage Center, 401 E. First St., from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Admission is by donation.

“Return of the River” documents the largest dam removal project in history on the Elwha River.

The film features people and perspectives on all sides of the Elwha debate, reflecting the many voices of the Elwha valley.

Students honored

PORT ANGELES — Twenty-six Stevens Middle School students were selected as Students of the Month for October and were honored at a recent luncheon prepared by culinary arts students at the North Olympic Peninsula Skills Center.

The seventh- and eighth-grade students were recognized by their teachers for showing responsibility at and during school.
