WEEKEND: ‘Returning the Bones’ continues at Key City Playhouse in Port Townsend

PORT TOWNSEND — “Returning the Bones,” Gin Hammond’s one-woman show about an African-American woman who must choose between two life paths, has just a few more performances at the Key City Playhouse, 419 Washington St.

This play is based on the true story of Dr. Carolyn “Bebe” Montier, who was a medical student in the late 1940s.

Hammond, a Helen Hayes Award winner, portrays 28 characters — in multiple dialects — to share Montier’s journey.

“Returning the Bones” arrives on the Key City stage at 7:30 tonight and next Saturday night, Oct. 25, and finally at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26. Tickets are $20 for the Sunday matinee and $24 for the evening shows.

For those interested in an expanded experience, Key City Public Theatre is chartering a cruise from Port Ludlow to Port Townsend on Saturday, Oct. 25.

The Puget Sound Express will depart the Port Ludlow Marina at 11:45 a.m. for a 1 p.m. performance of “Returning the Bones,” and return to Port Ludlow at 4 p.m. Tickets are $55 including the play, cruise and on-board refreshments.
