PORT HADLOCK — Raffle tickets are on sale through Sunday to raise funds for 4-H teens to attend two leadership events.

Jefferson County 4-H Council is sponsoring a fundraising event to support Jefferson County 4-H’er teens attending two upcoming 4-H teen leadership opportunities.

Raffle tickets will be sold for $1.

Winning tickets will be drawn at 6 p.m. Sunday at the annual Jefferson County 4-H Year-End Awards and Celebration at Irondale Church, 681 Irondale Road.

Winners need not be present.

Five prizes are being offered: a basket with an autumn theme, a book of cat breeds, an electric doggie biscuit kit, a book of E.B. White’s children’s stories and four Paws-N-Claws catnip mice.

Forum, rally

This fundraiser would help send Sam Smith to the 4-H forum Oct. 17-19 in Wenatchee and to the Southwest District 4-H Teen Rally from Nov. 7-9 in Olympia.

It also would help pay for Thierry Williamson to attend the Teen Rally, as well as any others who want to go, said 4-H coordinator Sue Hay.

“We’re encouraging more to go to the rally,” Hay said.

“You don’t have to be in 4-H to go to Teen Rally,” she added, saying it is for any teens in the seventh through 12th grades.

Smith hopes to gain a teen position on the Washington State 4-H Advisory Board and so must attend the forum and rally.

Registration for the forum is $145; for the rally, registration is $95.

Smith also will present, along with Hay and Jenny Schmidt, the 4-H coordinator in Clallam County, a Youth Adult Partnership workshop at the Teen Rally, Hay said.

Smith is beginning her 11th year in Paws-N-Claws 4-H Club.
