RENTON — Free agent quarterback Matt Flynn has agreed to terms with the Seattle Seahawks on a multiyear deal.

The Seahawks are hoping that a one-time backup in Green Bay can become the new franchise quarterback in the Pacific Northwest.

Flynn has been a career backup with the Packers. But Seattle general manager John Schneider was able to tap into his connections, having previously worked for Green Bay before joining the Seahawks organization.

Flynn dazzled in the season finale when he threw for six touchdowns against Detroit, and was one of the hottest free agents on the market.

Seattle went down this road before when it traded with Green Bay to acquire Matt Hasselbeck before the 2001 season. Hasselbeck eventually led the Seahawks to their only Super Bowl appearance.
