Sequim’s new K-9 officer arrives, and Port Angeles’ is flying in

SEQUIM — After four days of looking for the ideal dog, Cpl. Kevin Miller found him.

But though Miller, the Port Angeles Police Department’s K-9 trainer, flew back home this week, his new dog didn’t.

A blizzard halted airport traffic out of Ohio, where Miller selected the dog last weekend.

The trainer hopes the German shepherd will catch a flight to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport today or Friday.

Then Miller can drive over and retrieve his new partner, who is as yet unnamed.

Sequim, however, has its new K-9 staffer.

Like Miller’s dog, Chase is two and a half years old, but he was selected by Sequim Police Officer Mike Hill at a kennel in North Carolina.

His flight wasn’t delayed, so he arrived on the North Olympic Peninsula on Sunday.

Miller, a trainer for the State Police Canine Association, will train both dogs, said Port Angeles Police Chief Terry Gallagher.
