Port awards contract to remove 150 more Lincoln Park trees — 350 total

PORT ANGELES – An extended contract to remove an additional 150 trees from Lincoln Park – 350 total – was approved Monday by Port of Port Angeles commissioners.

The extension increased the contract’s value from an estimated $51,500 to an about $90,000 based upon unit cost.

Two members of the three-member port commission also said they were pleased so far with contractor A&N Logging of Joyce, which began removing trees last week.

A second contract of up to $100,000 for stump grinding, topsoil replacement and grass seeding will be considered at a future port commission meeting.

The Federal Aviation Administration has required the port, which operates William R. Fairchild International Airport west of the park, to remove trees from the city-owned park that are near the approach to the runway.

The FAA is funding the project with a 95 percent grant. The port is paying its 5 percent match from passenger facility charges, which are added to the cost of airline tickets.
