Sequim High grad returns as soccer coach

SEQUIM — What Nathan Davis lacks in coaching experience, he makes up for in enthusiasm.

Davis, a 28-year-old, 1995 Sequim High School graduate, was confirmed by the Sequim School Board this week as the new Wolves head girls soccer coach.

It is his first head-coaching position.

Davis will also hold a full-time teaching position.

“Overall, I’m just really excited to get in there and start coaching,” Davis said Tuesday.

“I met with the girls earlier this week and they seem like a strong group of girls.

“I’ve been working on some practice plans and strategy, and set up some voluntary practices with my assistant coach.”

As a first-year coach, Davis said he hopes to first establish a solid foundation.

“I’m going to start by building off what [previous coach] Linsay Rapelje has established and just get some continuity in the program,” he said.

“I hope to be here for a while and want to work toward building a program with a strong foundation.”

After lettering three years on Sequim High School’s boys soccer team, Davis said he played on a number of intramural soccer teams at Central Washington University, along with coaching children’s soccer.

“We’re pretty excited about [Davis],” Sequim High School athletic director Chris Olson said over the phone on Tuesday.

“I’ve known him for a number of years and we believe he will be a great addition to not only the coaching staff, but the teaching staff as well.”
